Merge Gaming is ending rakeback deals for all players. Merge Gaming last did this on June 1, 2011. That time, existing players were allowed to keep their rakeback deals. That is not the case this time. All players will move to their skin's VIP program on February 1, 2013.
A Carbon Poker representative stated that this was done to even out the offers for all players and to free up money for promotions. They also stated that the VIP program would be changed to reflect their goal of a healthy poker room in terms of ecology. They also feel that rakeback is a dated model that has been abandoned by most networks that are larger than they are.
This move comes after some major changes on Merge Gaming in the past year. The first major change was the loss of Lock Poker to the Revolution Gaming Network. Several large skins also left or closed. Black Chip Poker left for the Winning Poker Network. RPM Poker and Hero Poker outright closed. Carbon Poker moved to a new cashier and player to player transfers were stopped on the network.
There are still several options for U.S. rakeback. Americas Cardroom, True Poker and Black Chip Poker are on the Winning Poker Network and offer 27% rakeback. Lock Poker and Juicy Stakes are on the Revolution Gaming Network and offer 36% rakeback.
Once we have details on the new Merge gaming VIP programs and promotions we will post about it here. Check back soon for more details.
