Party Poker announced that they will drop their top VIP tier on March 31, 2013. The tier that will no longer be available is known as Palladium Elite. While this drew criticism from many players, this tier affects only the highest volume of players. A player that achieves Palladium Elite must rake an average of $8,333 each month. The loss of Palladium Elite will mean the loss of benefits including the $20,000 poker bonus, $50,000 cash bonus and $75,000 poker bonus. The $3,500 cash and $15,000 cash will still be available. No other VIP tiers are affected by this change in Party Poker's VIP program. Players that are affected by this change have until March 31, 2013 to reach the Palladium Elite tier to convert their Party Points into the bonuses that will be removed.

This change affects all Party Network skins, including WPT Poker.

This change should not be a major surprise to high volume players. Party Poker already announced that some changes would be made to benefit casual players. The most noticeable change already implemented was removing high limit games. There have also been changes to the tournament leaderboards to prevent heads up tournaments from affecting the payouts to players.

Some of these changes likely occurred due to the addition of bwin to the Party Network. They were the largest skin on the Ongame Network until their player base was merged into the Party Network platform. Management of bwin was instrumental in creating the first recreational rake formula called Ongame Essence. This awarded losing players more points than winning players. This affected both player bonuses as well as VIP cashback promotions often referred to as valueback on the Ongame Network.

Most players will not be affected by this change. Many lower volume players have been promised more promotions in the future. These promotions have yet to be announced.
